The Canadian Alliance of Naturopathic Regulatory Authorities (CANRA) is the national voice for Canada’s naturopathic medicine profession.
About CANRA
CANRA was established in 2016 with the goal of protecting “the integrity of naturopathic regulation by educating and unifying jurisdictions toward the collective goal of public health and safety.” CANRA is composed of five provincial naturopathic regulators from across Canada that license over 3,000 registered members who practice the profession. CANRA’s members are the regulatory bodies (also known as Colleges) who work collaboratively, demonstrating leadership and accountability on matters which support the regulatory mandate of each provincial jurisdiction to protect the public interest in a consistent national approach.
In support of its mandate, CANRA is developing a competency-based, national entry-to-practice practical exam for all applicants seeking registration in one of Canada’s regulated jurisdictions.
Provincial Naturopathic Regulators
There are six regulatory bodies across Canada, soon to be seven, that are authorized by their respective provincial governments and legislation to regulate the practice of naturopathic medicine. They serve to protect the public by ensuring that everyone seeking registration to practice meets standard qualifications in education and professional competencies. To become registered, an applicant will need to apply for and receive their license through one of the regulatory bodies, according to where the applicant chooses to live and practice. Five of the six naturopathic regulators are members of CANRA.
